The Tim S. O’Halloran Alumni Faculty Award is presented to the faculty member who exemplifies excellence in teaching, student life enrichment, dedication and service. This award is named after the late Tim O’Halloran, who was a teacher, coach, award-winning scientist, innovator, scholar, artist, athlete and visionary. It was his love of teaching, care for his students, passion for learning and dedication to Holland Hall that made Tim such a special individual.
Each year, the class celebrating it’s 10 year reunion selects the faculty member who best represents the qualities we celebrate and appreciate in Tim.
For more than 26 years now, Mr. Bergenroth has been teaching, training, coaching and enthralling students and colleagues alike. He comes to us from across the pond where he was born and raised in the outskirts of London. There he fell in love with the sport of CREW and that love brought him to our shores where he attended Boston University and rowed 4 years for the Terriers. Another stop along his way was at The Gunnery School in Connecticut where he fell in love with Cathy Rose, and they came to Tulsa together. The measuring cup of life hit “full” with the addition of their daughter, Emily, class of 2027.
Mr. Bergenroth is currently in his twenty-first year at Holland Hall, having taught courses ranging from 8th grade science for 5 years in the middle school to AP Chemistry and even AP Computer Science in the upper school. He is a true Renaissance man who can be found in the lab getting Pre-K students excited about science with the fiery “Sacrifice of the Gummy Bear” or maybe you’ve seen him in a Jedi cloak defeating two Sith lords in Morning Meeting. He does all that and is renowned both for his “dad jokes” and for the kind, caring way he harbors high expectations for his students. Mr. Bergenroth continues to care for others and develop himself as he entrepreneurs a STEM education curriculum that gives disadvantaged students an opportunity to further their science skills while learning to row.
Here to present the award to Mr. Bergenroth are members of the O’Halloran family, members of the Class of 2013, and the Director of Alumni and Family Engagement, Mr. Hart.
Please join me in congratulating the recipient of the 2023 O’Halloran Award, Mr. Neil Bergenroth
