Hi everyone! Welcome back to another insightful video on the channel. Today, I’m excited to share with you a transformational rowing technique journey of one of my clients.
Rowing Technique Before and After
When this client approached me, they had only a couple of months of rowing experience. We began our coaching sessions, and within a month, the transformation was evident. The video on the left showcases their video analysis rowing technique from 30 days ago, while the one on the right displays the progress after a month of individualized coaching. The difference is striking!
Why This Matters
This comparison isn’t just to showcase the effectiveness of my coaching. It’s also an educational tool. Even if you’re not considering personal coaching, observing these videos can provide insights into stroke mechanics and the nuances of rowing.
Breaking Down the Technique
One of the first things I noticed from the initial video was the vertical component of the drive. Ideally, the drive should be more horizontal. Over the 30 days, this was one of the primary areas of improvement.
Posture is another crucial aspect. Initially, the client’s tailbone was tucked, affecting the sequence of motion during the recovery phase. After coaching, there’s a noticeable improvement in the forward body angle early in the recovery, setting up for a more effective stroke.
The Million Dollar Position
The body over position is what I like to call the ‘million dollar position.’ It’s the foundation of a good stroke and rowing technique. Comparing the two videos, there’s a clear improvement in the client’s catch position after 30 days because of the improvements made in setting body angle forward from the hips early in the recovery. This new catch position allows for better acceleration during the drive, leading to a more efficient stroke.

The Drive Progression
A significant difference between the two videos is evident during the drive. Initially, the upper body opened up too early. After 30 days, there’s a more synchronized movement between the legs, back, and arms, leading to a smoother force curve.
The Importance of Acceleration In Rowing Technique
Acceleration is vital for an effective stroke. The force curve should be smooth, ensuring the wheel maintains its speed throughout the stroke. By improving the synchronization of the legs, back, and arms, the client achieved a better force curve, leading to a more powerful stroke.
The Final Verdict
After 30 days of analysis, drills, strength training, and feedback, the results are evident. The client’s rowing technique has improved significantly, leading to a more efficient and powerful stroke.
If you’re looking to improve your rowing technique, consider the points discussed in this video. Remember, every stroke counts. Even a 3-4% improvement in your technique can lead to significant gains over longer distances.
Wrapping Up
I hope you found this video insightful. If you did, please give it a thumbs up and consider subscribing to the channel. If you’re interested in personal coaching, feel free to reach out. I’d love to help you on your rowing journey.
Thanks for watching, and until next time, keep rowing!
